Nathan Vanderlaan is a partner with Vanderlaan Law Group and is based in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office.  Nathan’s practice focuses on civil litigation and insurance coverage defense.  With regards to his litigation practice, Nathan’s expertise includes the defense of complex tort claims, trucking accidents, construction injuries, employment law and civil rights claims.  Nathan also acts as insurance coverage counsel for some of the firm's clients and provides counseling services for businesses on compliance and other business related matters.  

Nathan handles the highest exposure and most complex cases for VLG clients, including construction defense, risk transfer, offensive and defensive insurance coverage litigation, uninsured/underinsured motorist claims, catastrophic motor vehicle and trucking accidents as well as complex employment and civil rights related claims.  Nathan counsels his client on employment related issues, procedures and policies and also plays an active role in the investigate stages of employment related claims both pre and post suit.  Nathan also consults for and counsels various business clients or corporate organization, compliance and start-up. Nathan has won several victories for his clients through motions to dismiss, summary judgment,  arbitrations, and obtained very favorable dispute resolution outcomes for clients on multi-million dollar exposures. 

Nathan is licensed to practice in the states of Florida and Illinois as well as the various federal district courts in Florida and Illinois.  He is a member of the Florida State Bar Association, the Broward County Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association. 

Nathan graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in Legal Studies. He obtained his law degree from the University of Minnesota School of Law, and he graduated with Cum Laude honors. While in law school, Nathan worked for the Innocence Project Clinic reviewing and investigating prisoner claims of wrongful convictions. Throughout law school, Nathan clerked for both civil litigation law firms as well as intellectual property prosecution and litigation law firms.
